Description

Production of an artwork by Thomas Demand for the New Lenbachhhaus in Munich (Kunst am Bau): a letter sculpture composing the name “Lenbachhaus” mounted on the golden facade of the museum extension by Foster + Partners.

The 11 letters composing the name “Lenbachhaus” are realised through a welded aluminium sandwich construction and fixed on the facade at a distance through a special substructure. The letters are finished by an 8-layer-surface producing a particular bluish shade. By night, the letter sculpture appears like a bidimensional light lettering due to the LEDs integrated into the metal letters.
