Description
Design and construction of the 120 “sails” of the Serpentine Gallery summer pavilion designed by the artist Olafur Eliasson and the architect Kjetil Thorsen at Kensington Gardens in London.
Preparation of approx. 14,000 m cable for 12 architectural sails on 4 machine benches and installation. One sail consists of approx. 120 m of braided special cables with 32 strands. Every sail has its own individual dimensional variations.
The sail was delivered with an initial tension and fitted in its final position (tensioned) in adjustable special bearings. It is fitted in an upward helix over a course of 70 m with an altered connection angle.
